Owings Mills Mall was an upscale shopping center which opened in 1986 with over 150 stores/restaurants that declined in popularity after, among other things, a woman was murdered on the path to the nearby metro station in 1992. This led to a reputation that the mall was unsafe, and it struggled to keep up with other nearby competitors. In 2015 the interior of the mall was closed and the last attached stores closed in 2016.

The mall itself was nearly gutted when I was there but there were odd bits of personality still clinging to this plane. It was a surreal experience, as demolition was underway; certain areas had been completely stripped of personality but others still echoed the days when shoppers had thronged the shops and the mall itself was, if not a thing of beauty, at least impressive as a shrine to retail goods.
